Which Resort is the best choice for me and my traveling companions?
We know there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to being the perfect vacation getaway for any given person.
Most people prioritize weighing a combination of factors: a beautiful location, relaxing atmosphere, reputation for superior customer service, diverse activities, high quality food and convenient amenities to name a few.
But how can you decide when both of our Guanaja Resorts check all the same boxes?
But here are our thoughts on a few key factors you might consider differentiating Clark’s Cay and Dunbar Rock.
Best for divers who want more than 3 dives a day:
Both properties offer divers five days with 3 dives daily and 2 dives on Friday. 17 dives in total. There is one night dive that is generally done at twilight on Tuesdays. There is no boat dive that afternoon, with guests having the option to tour Bonacca and other areas.
For divers looking for more than 3 dives each day, Dunbar Rock is obviously the best choice since it offers the option to shore dive “around the rock.”
It may only be up to 15′ deep, but the marine life there is nothing short of amazing. And certainly, there are no concerns about bottom time! It offers a mind-blowing night dive for macro enthusiasts especially. (Visit our gallery for a preview.)
There is even a sandy area in about 10 feet of water specifically cleared out in the event you want to kneel and brush up on a few of your diving skills.
Tanks and gear are available 24/7.
Best for snorkeling from property:
The same shallow reefs surrounding the Dunbar Rock are excellent for snorkeling as well as diving.
Plus the shallow water you can see in the picture above (on the left (when facing Guanaja) has numerous sponges and corals in only 2 or 3 feet of water. This area is PACKED with juvenile fish and critters.
Closest to the dive sites:
Dunbar Rock and Clark’s Cay are not located that far apart. In fact, you can see the other off in the distance. The boat ride between the two properties is only about 5 minutes, so the time difference to any dive site is negligible.
Best for leisure group members:
That would be either! Both have kayaks and paddleboards available for paddle enthusiasts. Either resort can arrange hiking and nature tours. For those who prefer lounging, both offer massage services, an infinity pool, a hot tub, swings, hammocks, and a beach. Board games, such as Shut the Box, are also available. Clark’s Cay has a lazy river and a corn hole court, and Dunbar Rock has a pool table/game room.
Best for bonefishing from the property:
For bonefishing, the choice is easy, as only Clark’s Cay has the option to bonefish by simply wading into the water. Guests need to bring their own gear, or they can hire a local guide to provide the gear and boat if they want to fish elsewhere.
We’ve also had guests at both resorts fish off the dive docks (catch and release) with great success!
And arrangements can be made at either resort for chartering a deep-sea fishing experience.
Best for multigenerational vacations:
If you are planning a multigenerational family vacation reserving the entire island or Villa, both properties will work brilliantly!
The age limit restriction at Dunbar Rock is lifted anytime the Villa is reserved as a Private Villa.
Large or small, low-key or active, we’ll find adventures that will match your family’s pace. You can enjoy activities like nature walks and wildlife observation together or split up for in-the-water or on-the-water activities before getting together again at a waterfront restaurant. The best part about vacationing at either property is how easy it is to make your whole group happy!
Which is best for families with young children:
The vote goes to Clark’s Cay. Both offer complimentary kayaks and paddleboards. But Clark’s has the advantage of having three (not one) beach areas, with much more space to run around. Not to mention the draw of the lazy river.
Also, unless you have reserved Dunbar Rock as a Private Villa, children must be at least 16 years old.
Best for Foodies!
“Foodies” are in for a real treat when staying at either property, thanks to the combined efforts of the Food & Beverage Director for both properties and the talented team of chefs that support her.
We serve three hearty meals daily, plus a happy-hour snack. Guests select their entrees/sides/desserts and desserts, as well as their portion sizes, from the menu cards they receive at the end of each meal.
Special dietary requests are easily met, provided they are submitted in advance via the Guest Questionnaire.
We also love to recognize guests who are celebrating milestones with special desserts and decorations!
Best for Dive Groups?
We’re guessing if you asked a group that stayed at Dunbar Rock, they would vote for Dunbar Rock, and a Clark’s Cay group for Clark’s Cay!
So many of our groups come back annually or every other year.
The bedding at each resort – two queen beds in most rooms at Dunbar, and two twins convertible to a king at Clark’s, makes it pretty easy to accommodate whatever bedding arrangements a group leader requests.

Most accessible Resort:
Although Dunbar Rock does not offer ADA-compliant rooms, we have successfully hosted several (repeat!) groups with members in wheelchairs. There is a ramp that winds from the dive dock to the main level, with 2 Ocean Front Rooms, the dining/living area, and pool area all accessible from that level.
At Clark’s Cay, we are in the process of adding cabanas that will be wheelchair-accessible rooms with roll-in showers.
Best for a customized group experience:
If you’ve got a group that wants to do more than dive-dive-dive, ask us about options for creating a tailor-made itinerary staying at either Resort.
The bedding at both Resorts was designed with maximum flexibility for groups in mind. Dunbar Rock has two queen beds in 7 of the Ocean Front Rooms and the Penthouse Suite, with 3 of the Ocean Front Rooms and the Presidential Suite offering one king bed.
All 10 existing cabanas at Clark’s Cay have two twin beds that can be converted into one king-size bed. Bedding arrangements in the four Cabanas currently under construction (available in the 3rd quarter of 2026) are under consideration
